TOWN OF LEXINGTON
Ad hoc Community Center Advisory Committee (AhCCAC)
Programs Group

Minutes of Meeting of June 9, 2014
Final

A meeting of the Ad hoc Community Center Advisory Committee Programs Group was held
on Monday, June 9, 2014 at 9:33 AM in the Parker Room (G-15) at the Town Office
Building, 1625 Massachusetts Avenue.

Members Present: Laura Hussong, Chair; Jon Himmel, Karen Simmons (Director, Recreation
Department), Sheila Butts (Assistant Director, Recreation Department), Charlotte Rodgers (Director,
Human Services Department)

Members Absent: Leslie Zales, Florence Koplow

Also present: Barb Deveau, Senior Services Coordinator, Robert Pressman, Community Preservation
Committee, Thomas Romano, Recreation Department Intern

Meeting called to order at 9:31 AM with a quorum of five.

Minutes:

The minutes of the May 28, 2014 meeting were approved unanimously.
Motion: Sheila Butts/Second: Karen Simmons

Master Matrix - Process

We continued our examination of sections of the complete program matrix, categorizing the entries of
the following sections: Art, crafts, dance, education, health, computer games, board games,
miscellaneous ideas. Computer and board games were consolidated into a single section called
"games." The remaining categories, which will be analyzed at our June 23 meeting, are:
music/theater, services, socialization, and specialized.

Each entry was marked as one or more of:

D duplicate of item already on the list

K keep (things doing now and in budget)

N new (planned but not yet budgeted)

F future (something we hope to do at some point)

C something that will be 'citizen-run' (therefore not in budget of Rec or Hsvcs)

E expansion of a current offering (keyed as KE keep and expand)

S someplace else (will be offered at a non-community center location)

G general type activity

Issues brought up during the meeting:

LPS started providing bus service to after-school activities. We need to be involved in these
discussions so that Lexington Community Center (LCC) is included. We recognize
transportation will be a critical component of creating successful programs; Human Services
will continue to work with the Transportation Advisory Committee and other Town entities to
examine the broader issue of transportation, which is a Board of Selectmen goal.

Recreation will continue and expand (as space and resources permit) its current after-school
classes and activities
