BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING <br /> Tuesday, November 20, 2013, 7:00 P.M. <br /> Legion, Town Hall Building <br /> 1625 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington, MA <br /> Board of Health Members in Attendance: <br /> Burt Perlmutter, MD, John J. Flynn, J.D., David S. Geller, M.D, Sharon MacKenzie R.N., CCM, <br /> Board of Health Members not in Attendance: <br /> Wendy Heiger- Bernays, PhD, Chair <br /> Health Department Attendees: <br /> Gerard F. Cody, Health Director <br /> Linda Rainville, Clerk <br /> Burt Perlmutter called the meeting to order at 7:08 p.m. <br /> 1.) Minutes of October 15, 2013 approved with two corrections <br /> 2.) Community Health <br /> a.) CHNA Health Community grant Update <br /> Mr. Cody reported that the Grant Application was finalized. The survey showed areas the residents would like <br /> to see addressed: Connectivity, for residents; Alternate Transportation; Mental Health; Nutrition. The group <br /> has decided to continue to meet with or without the funding. The goal will be to promote existing programs. <br /> 3.) Environmental Health <br /> a.) Food Inspection Program <br /> 1) Ms. Emily Patel, came before the BOH to request a permit to operate a Residential Kitchen at 11 <br /> Hancock Ave. After answering the questions from the BOH, the permit was approved. "The Lexington <br /> Board of Health grants an Annual Permit to Operate a Residential Kitchen to Emily Patel at 11 Hancock <br /> Avenue." Dr. Geller motioned and S. MacKenzie seconded. All in Favor. <br /> 2) Mr. Zito De Olivera, Manager, Prime Roast Beef& Seafood- Did not appear. <br /> b.)State Sanitary Code Case Review Update <br /> c.) Raising the purchase age for tobacco, unregulated nicotine delivery devices to 21. <br /> Jonathan P Winickoff, M.D. and Matthew Reynolds, Student at LHS presented information to the BOH <br /> regarding the statistics regarding people under the legal age to buy cigarettes still being able to purchase <br /> cigarettes, cigars and other smoking material. At this time the legal age to purchase tobacco is 18 which opens <br /> the market up to teens in high school. The tobacco industry is targeting younger customers by selling items like <br /> flavored tobacco products, single packages, colorful packaging, etc. <br /> Dr. Winickoff reported the effects of tobacco on younger smokers. <br /> 1.) Electronic Cigarettes (e- cigarettes) Elizabeth Kloss reported on the research she has done regarding <br /> Electronic cigarettes. <br /> The BOH will revisit this topic at the December meeting. <br /> d.) Medical Marijuana, Ethan Handwerker came before BOH to follow up on his request for a Letter of <br /> Support, Letter of Non Opposition regarding his Registered Marijuana Dispensary.
