Lexington Human Services Committee <br />April 9, 2013 <br />Gail opened the meeting. Those in attendance were Gail Fields, Barbara Ciampa, Mimi Ballard, <br />Lea Elkins, Norm Cohen, Charlotte Rodgers, Emily Lavine and Rosalyn, a guest. The minutes <br />from the last meeting will stand as recorded. <br />UPDATE FROM THE HUMAN SERVICE DEPARTMENT <br />• Charlotte and Emily reported on the activities of the Department. Emily has been named <br />the Assistant Director of Youth and Family Services. <br />• Charlotte reported that Dan Pallen, a pediatrician, has joined to the Youth Services <br />Committee. <br />• HSD is looking for a Youth Services Program Coordinator. An ad in local papers. <br />Charlotte asked for volunteers from the HSC to help with the interviewing process. Gail <br />and Lea offered. <br />• The District Director of Veterans Services prepared a chart of benefit expenditures over <br />the past three years. He is predicting expenditures of $90,000 in 2013. A new staff <br />person has joined the team. He will provide services in Bedford. <br />• LexExpress ridership among the elderly has increased 50% partly due to certain hours <br />when the ride is free. <br />• LexConnect has expanded its services to seven days a week, with the hours on weekends <br />to be from 8 AM to 8 PM. Services will extend to Concord on July 1. <br />• The HSD has submitted a proposal for the Dana House grants for $25,500. The grant <br />• will be used for outreach to seniors, a partnership with teh police for an "Are You Okay" <br />program, and transportation. <br />LEXINGTON COMMUNITY CENTER UPDATE <br />The Mason property has been purchased by the town of Lexington on the <br />recommendation of the Comnnulity Center Advisory Committee. The town will help <br />raise finding for the renovation of the building. Seven people will be appointed to a <br />Board of Directors and one person will be hired to provide administrative services. <br />Plans may include the hiring of an architect since the building needs to meet security and <br />fire regulations and the space allocations will have to be decided. The Center will <br />hopefully be ready by the winter of 2014. <br />What can the HSC do to help with this project? It is too soon to tell. What will be the <br />fate of the Mussey Condos? The town owns the property and has not decided on a plan. <br />OTHER BUSINESS <br />The date of the next meeting will be Tuesday, ,Lune 4"'. <br />Items for discussion may include the direction for the HSC.
