Lexington Human Services Committee <br />June 4, 2013 <br />Gail opened the meeting. Those in attendance were Gail Fields, Barbara Ciampa, Mimi <br />Ballard, Norm Cohen, Ellen McDonald„ Emily Lavine, Betty Borghesani, Stephanie <br />Lawrence <br />Update from Human Services Dept (Charlotte and Emily) -- <br />Matthew Ryan has been hired as Youth Services Program Coordinator and will target <br />Middle School youth in his programming efforts. Matt will work 4 days /wk and will start <br />June 17th. <br />The HSD has been awarded a Dana Home Foundation Grant of $25,000 for enhancing <br />outreach to frail, isolated seniors. The program components are: <br />a) sending out an outreach brochure to all residents 60+ with a second mailing to those <br />80+ <br />b) collaborating with Police to develop an Are You OK? robo -call that will check on at -risk <br />senior citizens <br />c) a chair -car transportation <br />Community Center Update <br />The Selectmen announced the members of the new Community Center Advisory <br />Committee: <br />Michelle Cicollo <br />Harry Forsdick <br />Mary Ellen Alessandro <br />Betty Borghesani <br />Leslie Zales <br />Laura Hussong <br />Florence Koplow <br />In Nov 2013 papers will be passed for the new facility for the CC. This summer the <br />property will be undergo a systems (HVAC, etc.) evaluation with a goal of partial <br />occupancy by Spring 2014. <br />HSC goals for coming year -- <br />The committee brainstormed about goals for the coming year and settled on goals of: <br />a) Continue to evaluate, improve and refresh the role of the committee <br />b) Explore ways in which the new community center might serve to help those with <br />unmet needs and advise on any confluence of purposes with the CC Advisory Committee <br />as an advocate for youth, seniors and intergenerational use <br />We also had an interesting discussion about the possibility of a forum on the town's <br />changing demographics and cultural life. <br />
