HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012-11-15-CAC-minLexington Communications Advisory Committee Minutes of Nov 15, 2012 Meeting COMMUNICATIONS ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING Legion Room, Cary Hall Chairman Jim Goell called the meeting to order at 6:34 PM. Attendees: CAC members: Dave Becker, Dave Buczkowski, Frank Cai, Smita Desai, Jim Goell, Maria Kieslich, Ken Pogran and Linda Roemer, Dorinda Goodman Visitors: Florence Delsanto (LexMedia) David lllsley (LexMedia) 1. Minutes of Previous Meeting The CAC voted to accept the minutes of the October 18, 2012 regular meeting. 2. Chairman's Report Mr. Goell noted the following: a) The request for an Internet infrastructure plan was sent to Marianne McKenna for the new Estabrook Elementary School. It was suggested that the inquiry go to Pat Goddard. The Chair will email him. b) Installation of WiFi at Cary Hall was discussed with Pat Goddard. Pat indicated that it was not necessary to install the wiring during renovation because it is relatively easy to install it later on. The committee still believes it would be better to install it during the renovation. c) Next meeting December 20 Legion Room, Cary Hall 3. CAC members had a group picture taken. 4. LexMedia annual report: CAC memebers agree LexMedia has done an excellent job this year. Linda Roemer and Maria Kieslich are very pleased with their progress The CAC approved the CAC's response to LexMedia's annual report. There was no on- demand usage data included in LexMedia report. The CAC suggested that they include it in their next report. Florence agreed. This committee also asked LexMedia include year over year data in subsequent quarterly and annual reports. 5. LexMedia HD issue: LexMedia is now doing most of its recording, streaming and OnDemand in HD. However the HD content can't broadcast by our carriers. Jim Goell will send notes to three carriers to find out what the issues are and what they are willing to do. 6. LexMedia mobile app LexMedia has a mobile app, which can be downloaded from iTune for free. It can be used to watch LexMedia's and streaming channels. LexMedia did not pay for development but needs to pay maintenance cost. 7. LexMedia's Response to Requests for Recording As a result of a recent email exchange on the Lexington List, the CAC suggested that LexMedia draft a model response. 8. LexMedia Bulletin LexMedia will add some photos from its covered events to bulletins that they place around town promoting their operations 9. LexMedia backup server Dorinda Goodman is considering installing the backup server at 201 Bedford Street and has requested approval from Carl Valente and Rob Adelson The difficulty is getting the broadband bandwidth. Dorinda submit a PIR (Program Improvement Request) for next year and may ask Comcast for the connection. She will try to get an answer by the next CAC meeting. 10. Cary Hall WiFi Ken Pogran sent his first draft of the CAC's request to the CAC members before the meeting. The committee approved a motion for Ken Porgan and Linda Roemer to refine the draft and then send it to the Cary Memorial Renovation Task Force for review after first sending a heads up to Pat Goddard. The goal is to get it to the Renovation Task Force before their upcoming public hearing. 11. Comcast negotiation update Nothing new. The negotiating meeting has been postponed. 12. Revenue report Dave Becker will provide an updated revenue update report once he receives the recent period reports from the carriers 13. LexMedia C1oseCaption CAC members are interested in LexMedia's plans for closed captions. The chair will send them am email asking about their intent. 14. LexMedia Survey CAC members are interesting on the priority of LexMedia's capital expenditure plan and wonder whether LexMedia has viewer survey plan to determine its priority. 15. Wireless report Nothing new this month. 16. Complaints No complaints this month. 17. Open discussion — No items were reported. The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 PM.
