LEXINGTON SIDEWALK COMMITTEE
> Minutes, September 11, 2006
>
> Meeting was opened at 11 AM in the Selectman's Meeting Room by Chm.
> Weeks.
>
> Lucy FJ reported on the web site: the web site has been updated with
> the Boman. Hastings, and Bridge Schools SR2S walk week information
> from May.
Lucy asked for updates to the website from the policy sub-committee
and the inventory sub-committee as these were both active. All updates
need to be in a 'ready to go' form. Lucy will edit photographs and
check text for spelling but does not have the time to write text.
Lucy reported that the Bowman and Hastings SR2S initiative in the
Spring was sent in by the Town for a Massachusetts Municipal
Association innovation award on Sept 1st.
she also reported that Bowman, Bridge, and Hastings would be
participating in a mini-walk week at the beginning of October.
Lucy asked for an update on the Pleasent St./East Worthen St.
crosswalk which is vital for many Bowman students. Gail Wagner replied
that it had now gone to the Ma State Highway board for review because
it needed to be sited close to the Rt. 2 entrance.
>
> The subcommittee on policy issues, consisting of Lisa, Francine,
> MaryAnn, Jeanne, and Wayne, has asked for more involvement by the
> membership on the policy objectives that Jeanne outlined in a recent
> email. Craig said he had emailed all members, asking each to commit to
> one or more of the seven points in Jeanne's email
>
> It was noted that the DPW had done well in meeting the prioritized list
> of sidewalk improvements and cross walks called for by the
> parent-teacher collaboration at Bridge School. Similar prioritized
> lists are being put together for Bowman and are in process for Hastings
> and Esterbrook elementary schools and Diamond middle school. Other
> schools in Lexington are being first contacted at the administrative
> level and will have similar programs.
>
> Issue of how we create uniform signage for the townwide SRTS program
> was raised. Gail W. said she would look into it. Laura C. said that
> the signs for school bus stops were not yet in place.
>
> On concerns about school traffic safety, the Lexington police should be
> contacted first and possible corrective actions will follow through the
> TSAC and the Selectmen. On school grounds the principal should also be
> informed and coordinate with the police on resolution.
>
