<br />Lexington Board of Health Meeting, June 9, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. <br />Cary Hall, Ellen Stone Room <br />1605 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington, MA <br /> <br />Attendees: Wendy Heiger-Bernays, Chair; Sharon MacKenzie; Burt Perlmutter; <br />Deborah Thompson and Judith Feldman. <br /> <br />Health Department Attendees: Gerard F. Cody, Ann Belliveau <br /> <br />Heiger-Bernays called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. <br /> <br />The Board reviewed the minutes of May 14, 2008. Perlmutter motioned to accept the <br />minutes as amended. MacKenzie seconded. All approved. <br /> <br />Public Health Nurse Report - Cody presented a synopsis of the most recent <br />communicable diseases reported to the BOH since the last meeting. He will continue to <br />track & report until the public health nurse is hired. <br /> <br />Public Health Nurse (PHN) Position Update – Cody informed the Board that the position <br />for PHN was advertised in The Boston Globe and at least 3 applications have been <br />submitted. The application deadline is June 13, 2008. MacKenzie would like to <br />participate in the interviewing. <br /> <br />Second Medical Waste Day – Cody advised the Board of the second medical waste day <br />held on June 4, 2008 between 4-7:30 PM. There were 25 participants and 150 lbs. of <br />material was collected. JRM Rubbish Hauling sponsored the event. <br /> <br />Housing Code Compliance Program Update – 9 Stimson Avenue <br />Cody conducted a visual inspection at 9 Stimson Avenue and it appears the house has <br />been cleaned out. According to other sources, other than the owner, the house has been <br />sold. At this point, Cody feels it would be appropriate to close the case. <br /> <br />Aloft and Element, (Westin Hotel), 727 Marrett Road – Perlmutter moved to approve a <br />one-year variance for the Aloft pool and Element pool at 727 Marrett Road pending <br />proper signage. MacKenzie seconded. All approved. <br /> <br />Cody advised the Board that Aloft and Element (Westin Hotels) had completed a food <br />plan review with the Health Department. All necessary equipment (hand sinks, three bay <br />sinks, prep sinks, hand wash sinks) have been installed according to the code in the Aloft. <br />The unit known as the Element is still under construction. Mr. Charles York, Assistant <br />General Manager of Aloft and Element, requested a temporary permit to allow the <br />kitchen in Aloft to be used for training purposes and not for serving the public. <br />Perlmutter motioned to grant a temporary food permit to Aloft at 727 Marrett Road. <br />MacKenzie seconded. All Approved. <br /> <br />Unidine/Shire’s Cafeteria, 300 Patriot Way - Cody informed the BOH of Unidine’s <br />completion of a food plan review. All necessary equipment has been installed according <br />to code. Cody advised that Eric Kinniburch, Executive Chef for Shire/Unidine, is <br />requesting a permit to operate a food establishment and catering to the other 5 buildings <br />on campus. Unidine had been operating on a temporary permit without any issues. <br />MacKenzie motioned to grant Unidine/Shire located at 300 Patriot Way an annual food <br />establishment permit.
