INVENTORY FORM B CONTINUATION SHEET LEXINGTON 8 Wadman Circle
MASSACHUSETTS HISTORICAL COMMISSION Area(s) Form No.
220 MORRISSEY BOULEVARD,BOSTON,MASSACHUSETTS 02125
1620
Recommended for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
If checked, you must attach a completed National Register Criteria Statement form.
ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION:
Describe architectural features. Evaluate the characteristics of this building in terms of other buildings within the community.
Located on a small residential circle off Patriots Drive, 8 Wadman Circle is a modest 1 'h-story structure with an L-shaped plan.
Its appearance vaguely suggests a 19th century construction date; its concrete block foundation is an indication that it was likely
moved here from another site. The building is sheathed in wood clapboards. The north wall of the building undulates with
differing wall surfaces suggesting the house may have been constructed in several sections. The broad gable roof is sheathed in
asphalt shingles and has projecting eaves. Windows contain double-hung wooden sash in 2/2 and 2/1 configurations, arranged
individually and in pairs. Many of the windows are flanked by board shutters. The area between the two projections is filled by
a sunporch enclosed with multi-light windows.
HISTORICAL NARRATIVE
Discuss the history of the building. Explain its associations with local(or state)history. Include uses of the building, and the role(s) the
owners/occupants played within the community.
Wadman Circle was laid out in 1925 on land which Wesley Wadman acquired from Hallie Blake in 1924. Blake was the owner
of the former Hayes Estate (60 Meriam Street). Like its neighbor at 6 Wadman Circle, the house at 8 Wadman Circle appears to
have been recycled and relocated from another site, probably the Hayes Estate. The 1925 plan of Wadman's land(Plan Book
366,Page 29) shows that the house at 8 Wadman Circle was already in place at that time.
The property was sold by Marion Stickney to J. Carter and Anita MacDonald in 1946 (Book 7076,Page 393). It was sold by
Mrs. MacDonald to the present owners in 2002.
BIBLIOGRAPHY and/or REFERENCES
Lexington Directories,various dates.
Middlesex South Registry of Deeds, Cambridge,Mass. 1925— Plan Book 366,Page 29 (lot 4)
Sanborn Insurance Maps
U.S. Census,various years.
1906 map
Continuation sheet 1
