ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE (Describe important architectural features and <br /> evaluate in terms of other buildings within the community.) <br /> This is a gambrel-roofed Colonial Revival 'house which combines a patterned <br /> shingled surface (every fifth row of shingles has a verW narrow weather) with <br /> an unusual central Pavilion. The pavilion, however, represents an alteration <br /> to the original design. As first constructed and pictured in Willard Brown's <br /> albur., the house had a sin.:ple pediraented cortico. The portico was enclosed <br /> sometime later and a second-store rectangular baw window with se7.ientally-arched <br /> roof were added above. The entablature of the aortico was extended around the <br /> (see Continuation Sheet) <br /> HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (Explain the role owners played in local or state <br /> history and how the building relates to the development of the community.) <br /> The area of Slocum, Road was part of the estate of Lewis Hunt, hardware <br /> merchant, who moved to Lexington in 1864 and acquired much real estate. Slocum: <br /> was Hunt's mother's r::aiden name. The house at 22 Slocum Road is included in <br /> :Millard Brown's album of plans and nhotographs of his works in the rossession <br /> of the Lexington Historical Society.
