BUILDING FORM (47 Robinson Road) <br /> ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION <br /> Describe architectural features. Evaluate the characteristics of the building in terms of other buildings within the <br /> community. <br /> Located at the end of Robinson Road in the northern part of Lexington, 47 Robinson Road is a two-story dwelling which <br /> exhibits elements of the Craftsman style in its stuccoed exterior and its slate hip roof with overhanging eaves and exposed <br /> rafters. Resting above a fieldstone foundation, the front facade is three bays wide and is fronted by a single-story porch <br /> supported by plain posts resting on a stuccoed wall. Under the porch, the center entrance is flanked by sidelights. On either <br /> side of the entrance there is a three-sided bay window consisting of a 8/1 sash flanked by 6/1. On the second story of the <br /> facade the central three-sided window contains three 4/1 windows with an individual 8/1 sash on either side. Centered on the <br /> front roof slope is a hip-roofed dormer with exposed rafters and containing three small diamond-paned windows. <br /> The north elevation is completely covered in stucco while the south side is partially sheathed in wood shingles which extend <br /> up to the second floor window sills. Extending behind the main house block is a two-story, wood-shingled addition with a <br /> lower level garage. <br /> HISTORICAL NARRATIVE <br /> Describe the history of the building. Explain its associations with local(or state) history. Include uses of the building and <br /> tlye role(s) the owners/occupants played within the community. <br /> This house was constructed for Reuben and Edith Mead in 1915. Assessor's records indicate that in 1915 the Meads were <br /> living in Somerville but owned a 6 1/2 acre parcel of land on Grove Street which included a small house. By 1916 Reuben <br /> Mead had constructed a new$5000 house on the property in addition to the$750 cottage. In 1930 the Mead property also <br /> included a garage and hen house and the acreage of the land had increased to 11.82 acres on Robinson Road. By the late <br /> 1930s the property was occupied by Richard Morris.
