ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE (Describe important architectural features and <br /> evaluate in terms of other buildings within the community.) <br /> This is a substantial Shingle Stele Vernacular house. The use of <br /> patterned shingles above the first floor is pronounced -- four roars of: stanc-erec <br /> butt or hexaaonal shine;les alternate with several rows of plain shingles. Other <br /> features include ashr:ffnetrical =sassing, porch with turned posts and turned <br /> balusters, eyebrow window in the roof (right side) , and "eyelid" lintel on the <br /> gable window on the facade. The house was built by David A. Tuttle, a carperiter- <br /> who built 39 houses in Lexington between 1840 and 1894. <br /> l , <br /> HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (Explain the role owners played in local or state- <br /> history and how the building relates to the development of the commlmity.) <br /> The house was built for Lucy Kendall Damon (b. 1817, d. 1900) , the wicow <br /> of Isaac newton Dar::on, a nan l;ror:inent in tovm affairs. It was originally built <br /> facing Forest Street but by 1898 had been roved back and turned to face luzzel <br /> Street, as it does today. B-,7 1904 the house was owned by TTrs.
