ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE (Describe important architectural features and
evaluate in terms of other buildings within the community.)
With its two long, low, flat-roofed wings accentuated by horizontal bands of
windows and with the smooth exterior surfaces, this house is a good example of the
International Style. Part of a community of contemporary homes designed and
developed by Walter Gropius° architectural firm, this house nonetheless owes more
of its influence to Breur than to Gropius (according to designing architect Richard
Morehouse) and is thus differentiated from most other houses in the neighborhood
(see Moon Hill area form) . There is, for example, no overhanging eave on this
house in contrast to the others in the development.
HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (Explain the role owners played in local or state
history and how the building relates to the development of the community.)
This house was designed by Richard S. Morehouse, an architect formerly a
member of The Architects Collaborative (TAC) , the firm that developed Moon Hill
(see Moon Hill area form) .
BIBLIOGRAPHY and/or REFERENCES (name of publication, author, date and publisher)
10M - 7/82
