INVENTORY FORM B CONTINUATION SHEET LEXINGTON 15 Manley Court
MASSACHUSETTS HISTORICAL COMMISSION Area(s) Form No.
220 MORRISSEY BOULEVARD,BOSTON,MASSACHUSETTS 02125
1595
Recommended for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
If checked, you must attach a completed National Register Criteria Statement form.
ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION:
Describe architectural features. Evaluate the characteristics of this building in terms of other buildings within the community.
Set on a low hill, 15 Manley Court is a 1 ''/2-story, cross-gabled dwelling which rests on a mortared stone foundation. It is
sheathed in vinyl siding and asphalt shingles cover the gable roof which overhangs without returns. A single-story porch
supported by turned posts fronts the two-bay wide fagade. The sidehall entrance has a glass-and-panel door. Window openings
contain wooden 2/1 sash. A single-story addition projects from the south wall, set on a concrete block foundation. A smaller
addition is also located to the rear.
HISTORICAL NARRATIVE
Discuss the history of the building. Explain its associations with local(or state)history. Include uses of the building, and the role(s)the
owners/occupants played within the community.
It appears that this house was built about 1906 for George Lynah, the shipper for a cloth store. There is nothing on the site at the
time of the 1898 map. The 1906 map shows a building which is not labeled, perhaps suggesting the house was under
construction. The 1906 directory states that Lynah was then living at 56 Vine Street but Census records indicate he was living at
15 Manley by 1910. George and Hannah Lynah were still living here in 1932. By 1942 the house was occupied by Cyril
Wood. Deeds indicate that Edward and Velma Rhoda acquired the property in 1940 and continued to own it until 1985.
BIBLIOGRAPHY and/or REFERENCES
Middlesex South Registry of Deeds, Cambridge,Mass.
Town Directories
U.S. Census,various years.
1898, 1906 maps
Continuation sheet 1
