Evaluate the characteristics of this building in terms of other buildings within the community. <br /> The house at 1 Malt Lane is an early 20th century Craftsman cottage displaying a jerkinhead roof and gable dormer finished with <br /> exposed rafter tails. The dwelling is sheathed in wood shingles and rests on a mortared stone foundation. The offcenter entrance <br /> and adjacent window are sheltered by a hip-roofed porch supported by plain posts with a simple stick balustrade. Windows <br /> contain modern 1/1 sash. Behind the house is a modern detached garage. <br /> HISTORICAL NARRATIVE <br /> Discuss the history of the building. Explain its associations with local(or state)history. Include uses of the building, and the role(s)the <br /> owners/occupants played within the community. <br /> This house was originally known as 225 Marrett Road. It was constructed c.1910 for Richard J. Burke (b. 1872)and his wife <br /> Katherine. He was a plumber. Richard Burke was still living here in 1942. <br /> The property is still owned by members of the Burke family today.
