BUILDING FORM (35 Brandon Street) <br /> ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION <br /> Describe architectural features. Evaluate the characteristics of the building in terms of other buildings within the <br /> community. <br /> Constructed in 1927, 35 Brandon Street is a 1 1/2-story, side-gabled brick Bungalow. The brick is laid in a Flemish bond <br /> and incorporates some glazed brick. The front gable extends to enclose an integral, full-width front porch supported by <br /> battered porch posts resting on a low wall covering in vinyl siding(obscuring the original wide or novelty siding). The <br /> sidehall entrance contains a six-panel wooden door including two upper lights. The entrance is flanked by sidelights. <br /> Adjacent is a tripartite window consisting of a central 6/1 sash flanked by narrow 6/1 on either side. The overhanging eaves <br /> have been covered in siding and are without braces. The front shed dormer has been sheathed in vinyl siding and displays <br /> four vinyl replacement windows in a 6/1 configuration. Windows on the side elevations are capped by flat arch brick lintels. <br /> To the right of the bungalow is a two-story, flat-roofed,brick addition. A single 6/6 window is centered on the upper level. <br /> On the lower level a window and door have been inserted in the former garage opening. <br /> HISTORICAL NARRATIVE <br /> Describe the history of the building. Explain its associations with local(or state) history. Include uses of the building and <br /> th c role(s) the owners/occupants played within the community. <br /> Tbps house was constructed in 1927 shortly after Brandon Street was laid out in close proximity to the Boston&Maine <br /> Railroad tracks and the East Lexington train station. The house appears on the 1927 Sanborn map which indicates it was <br /> drawn"from plans". The earliest reference for the property found on the Lexington Valuation List indicates that in 1933 <br /> Dorothy Vadeboncoeur was assessed for a house worth$5000 at 18 Brandon Street, constructed on lots 110 and 111 of the <br /> ELA(East Lexington Associates) subdivision. The acreage of the property,then, like today, was 5000 square feet. <br /> Directories indicate that Emile Vadeboncoeur was employed.as a printer. The property was sold by Dorothy Vadeboncoeur <br /> in 1963. The house was owned by Francis and Jean Churchill from 1964 to 1995.
