Friday, March 16, 2012 Bridge Site Based Council Minutes
Present: Meg Colella, Erin Maguire, Lucia Gates, Michele Welch and Intern,
Naomi Priver, Jill O'Reilly, Nimisha Asthagiri, Lisa Diamant
Meg gave out the Powerpoint presentation from the School Council tranining
from March 1, 2012.
A copy of the School Improvement Plan (SIP) should be reviewed by SBC
members and if there are comments or suggestions, please e-mail Meg. Some
of the plan's objectives carry over into the next school year. Parental input is
welcome and important for their perspective.
The SIP is a global plan and Meg makes a more detailed plan for the school.
The School Committee does not require the more detailed SIP.
In April, the SIP will be looked at during the SBC meeting and will be voted on in
May. The SP will be presented to the SC in June by the principals. There will be
professional development for teachers in the summer to support the SIP goals.
Looking ahead to September, there will be training for new SBC members.
October through January there will be implementation and monitoring of SIP.
Staff have been surveyed about PLCs and the results were discussed at a staff
meeting.
Staff will be asked for ideas for summer professional development to support the
goals in the SIP.
Renovation Update: Communication will be important for this project and Meg
has been posting updates regularly. There may also be a blog so there will be
more information in the summer and the progress will be documented.
Meg showed the paint and tile colors. There will be new heating units to replace
the existing univents, new tiles will be added to adjust for the new size and
shelving will be added. Sinks will be replaced and Meg showed the colors for the
counters.
Air quality testing: On Thursday, March 15 the air testing began to get a
baseline. During the construction, this will be an ongoing process and the Clerk
of the Works will be reviewing the data daily and contacting Meg if there are
issues to discuss. A procedure for this will be established if there is action to be
taken. The testing results will be available in the office for those who wish to see
them.
Construction workers are filling out CORI forms and this process began on March
15 th
Elections: Naomi asked about the election procedures and terms of SBC.
There will be voting for SBC members in the near future. We discussed how to
attract new members and how we should spread the word. The SBC has open
meetings and anyone who is interested will be encouraged to become a member.
The renovation will be a large component of next year's meetings and perhaps
this will interest new members. If people are interested in becoming members,
they will be asked to submit this in writing.
The date for elections TBA.
Nimisha suggested that Meg make an announcement at the Spring Fling and
Renovation Kick -Off to ask people if they are interested in joining the SBC.
