Minutes of Site Based Council
January 20, 2012
Attendance: Erin Maguire, Lucia Gates, Naomi Priver, Nimisha Asthagiri,
Michele Welch, Meg Colella, Lisa Diamant, Liz Mancuso, Stephanie Gray,
Rebecca Moore
Meg opened the meeting with a discussion of dismissal procedure. She had
previously posted a note to ask parents not to enter the building during the ten
minutes before dismissal. Parents had been going to classrooms and into the
office at this hectic time. It made dismissal very confusing. The note has been
taken off the front door and we will see how it goes from now on. The
renovations should help with this problem because there will be an area in which
parents can wait inside during cold or inclement weather.
A discussion of a survey that was done several years ago had communication as
an issue that needed to improve. There has been improvement in this area. It
was noted that not all parents read the information that is sent home or on the
website. The PTA has links on their website and hopes to mesh other links in the
future.
Rebecca mentioned that the PTA is not allowed to send mailings out in the
beginning of the year. They do invite people to subscribe to Bridge to Home, list
serve, and more needs to be done to get more parents to take advantage of
these informational sites. It is more important if the renovations take place
because there will be changes in traffic patterns and other issues.
Nimisha said that new kindergarten parents were not aware of Bridge to Home.
A suggestion was made that a subcommittee should be formed to help get
information to as many parents as possible. Perhaps parents would be able to
go to one site instead of four.
Meg said that maybe a summer mailing with information about signing up for
Bridge to Home, list serve could be included when the class lists go out.
Lucia thought that information for new parents should be looked at. Rebecca
mentioned that last year magnets with contact information were given out.
Meg said that the more information is given the better and a committee could
help streamline this process.
Naomi said that there is variability between teachers in posting information on
websites or sending newsletters.
Rebecca said that more help is needed to get out the vote on January 24
Lisa asked whether the site based council could get parent volunteers to help
staff pack up and unpack if the renovations take place. This is a large job and
help will be needed to do this in a timely manner.
Next Meeting: February 17, 2012
7:45am at Bowman
