Transportation Advisory Committee <br />Date: February 14, 2011 <br />Members Present: Sara Arnold, Sally Castleman, Elaine Dratch, Peter Levy, Larry Link, <br />Francine Stieglitz <br />Members Absent: Bill Levison <br />Liaisons: Nancy Adler, Council of Aging and Richard Canale, Planning Board <br />Guests: Charlotte Rodgers, Human Services Director, Neile Gordon, Human Services Intern, <br />Jane Trudeau, Friends of Council on Aging <br />Staff: Gail Wagner <br />TAC meeting minutes for January 10, 2011 were voted on and approved with edits. <br />Senior Transportation <br />➢ Charlotte Rodgers explained COA's intent to initiate a pilot taxi voucher program for <br />seniors. A donation of $30,000 was given by Lexington Health Care. <br />➢ Town appropriated funds are not sought. Perspective contributors include Friends of the <br />COA, Dana Home Endowment, and Wilson Farm grant. <br />➢ Neile Gordon, Human Services Intern, presented details of her research comparing senior <br />transportation in local towns. <br />➢ An estimate of 5% of Lexington's 8,100 seniors is likely to participate. <br />➢ Veteran's Taxi Cab has successfully run a comparable program in Weston. Seniors pay <br />$1 or $2 dollars based on distance per ride with town providing $7.50 to $8.50 per ride. <br />➢ TAC advised that program goals should be clarified. Who to be served? How to be <br />served? Service delivery options? <br />➢ A regional meeting to discuss senior transportation issues was recently held with <br />Lexington represented by the Town Manager and Charlotte Rodgers. <br />MBTA Meeting with Lexington Representatives <br />➢ After storm cancellation, a new date has not been proposed. <br />➢ If re- scheduled, TAC will attend and a summary of TAC concerns sent to Rep. <br />Kaufman. <br />➢ Appreciation for the MBTA's annual Lexpress subsidy will be noted. <br />➢ MBTA's vision for Lexington including Hartwell Avenue will be raised. <br />Electric Vehicle Charging Station <br />➢ State has not responded to date. <br />Lexpress Updates <br />➢ January ridership was 210 less than last year. Snow storms impacted ridership. <br />➢ Elaine Celi, Lexington school bus coordinator, compiled a survey with input from Safe <br />Routes to School, and the Lexpress office. Survey will be sent to parents electronically <br />to track school transportation choices and selection criteria. <br />➢ Michelle Ciccolo, Hudson Planner, submitted a preliminary Clean Air Suburban Grant <br />for GPS tracking equipment. Acton and Lexington provided letters of support. <br />March Meeting Date <br />➢ Week of March 14 was identified.
