YSC Meeting Minutes 6/7/06
Attendance; Tim Johnson, Becky Rushford, Arny Berger, Jennifer Wolfrum, Bill Blout,
Norman. Cohen, Karen Simmons, Bill Clark
-No new news from the advocacy task force. They may be deliberating further. Jen
Wolfrum is the liaison to this sub - committee group.
-It was mentioned that Winchester had won a $10,000.00 grant for a "Healthy
Wilmington ". Efforts to look into coordinating with Winchester and other communities
like it to see if they could assist us with grant applications will be examined.
-Jen Wolfrum discussed "rubrics" (used at the high school) and offered a model to be
worked on by group. The "rubrics" format helps establish objective criteria needed for
youth- focused community groups to receive support from the council. The group realizes
some groups may not come forward to the council for feedback, advice, and /or support.
There was some discussion about the set up of the model, which criteria include proposal
is clearly stated (i.e. youth emphasis), proposal reflects connections and collaboration
with community (i.e. collaborations documented), budget is detailed (i.e budget does not
compete with existing programs /requests). The group felt the sub - headings under criteria
were inline with our mission and met community needs without redundancy. Bill C.
proposed a time line for success with possible progress evaluations. Some changes
regarding structure were going to be made by Jennifer and brought back to the group for
further discussion.
-There was also discussion about other community groups working independently. It was
unanimous to have these groups meet with us and share their goals in an effort to
streamline youth services and have them work with our group as sub - committees. A
formal invitation was going to be sent to CPY to meet with us and discuss their strategies
and goals.
-Arny and Bill gave a mental health task force update. They are further along with getting
clinical consultation in high school. Consultation will hopefully begin in September.
-By September, the group hopes to have 2 high school students sitting on council.
Jennifer will check with guidance staff and deans and Bill C. will check with his Clergy
Association and get back to Becky. The group is looking for a sophomore or junior.
-The group also briefly discussed the override results.
Our next meeting is Wednesday September 13 from 3:00- 4:15pm, then we will
return to the first Wednesday of the month. Karen Simmons will be taking minutes.
Enjoy your summer.
