Regional Planning continued from previous page <br />Lexington's MAPC representative and other Lexington <br />representatives participated in several MAPC /MAGIC <br />forums on Smart Growth and Mixed Use Overlay dis- <br />tricts, Affordable Housing Options, Impact of Local <br />Zoning on Housing and Commercial Development, <br />Zoning Reform, Expedited Permitting, Low - Impact <br />Development (LID) Tools and Strategies, Suburban <br />Mobility, a Parking Toolkit, and transportation issues in <br />the regional long -range transportation plan. <br />Lexington and MAGIC maintain a direct voice in trans- <br />portation planning and project selection through the <br />Historic Districts Commission <br />Historic Districts Commission <br />ROLE: To promote the educational, <br />cultural, economic, and general wel- <br />fare of the public through the preser- <br />vation and protection of historic <br />buildings, places, and districts. <br />APPOINTED by the Selectmen for <br />overlapping 5 -year terms: two candi- <br />dates nominated by the Lexington <br />Historical Society, one candidate <br />nominated by the Arts and Crafts <br />Society, Inc., one candidate nominat- <br />ed by the Trustees of the Cary <br />Memorial Library, and one selected <br />at large by the Selectmen. <br />Boston MPO and its Regional Transportation Advisory <br />Council. Richard Canale represents MAGIC on trans- <br />portation issues as the subregion's representative to the <br />Regional Transportation Advisory Council. Gail Wagner, <br />the Lexington Transportation Coordinator, represents <br />Lexington on the Advisory Council. The Commission has benefited immensely <br />from his contribution over the years. <br />HEARINGS: <br />Hearings 136: 63 Formal, 36 continued, and 37 informal. <br />Issued: 76 Certificates of Appropriateness, 1 denial, and 1 <br />extension of time. <br />HIGHLIGHTS: <br />• The Commission continues to work with the architectural <br />team for the Supportive Living, Inc. housing in the historic <br />Lexington Press building at 9 Oakland Street. They <br />requested and received approval to extend their Certificate <br />of Appropriateness until August 2008. This hearing will <br />remain open until the project is completed. <br />• The Commission has determined the appropriateness of <br />construction documents and materials for the construction <br />of the new 3- story, wood framed, 30 -unit Lexington <br />Commons condominium (now know as Lexington Place) <br />at the former Battle Green Inn location. Construction shall <br />occur over a 16 -month time frame. This hearing will <br />remain open until the project is complete. <br />The Commission has determined the appropriateness of <br />plans for the construction of a house at 3 Hancock Avenue <br />to replace one destroyed by a gas explosion and fire in <br />2005. <br />• Commissioners continue to give special time to applicants <br />when guidance is needed.
