<br />HIGHLIGHTS:
<br />• Worked with Town Meeting members, boards, and committees to improve the Town Meeting process. The quality of
<br />Lexington's citizen participation is unparalleled; the dedication of its staff unequaled. Patience and a sense of humor
<br />prevailed.
<br />• Continued the following practices:
<br />— Held a pre -Town Meeting planning session with article sponsors, Town Counsel, Town Clerk, and Finance
<br />Committee Chairs to review timing and procedural matters, and anticipate scheduling difficulties, audio - visual
<br />requirements, probable amendments, and potential areas of disagreement.
<br />— Held a 2 -hour workshop for new Town Meeting members, Town Counsel, Appropriation, Capital Expenditures,
<br />Planning Board, and Town Meeting Members Association chairs to answer questions, clarify financial and planning
<br />terms and concepts, and explain legal issues and parliamentary procedures.
<br />• Sent written instructions to the sponsors of citizen articles to aid them in preparing for Town Meeting.
<br />• Wrote a newspaper article explaining the protocol regarding citizen participation.
<br />• Held a post -Town Meeting critique which identified measures for improving procedures and developing a process to
<br />help citizen warrant article sponsors prepare and present their proposals to Town Meeting.
