U i rZ <br />t <br />pow <br />Selectmen's Meeting -7- June 5, 1988 <br />MASSPIRG <br />A request for support of its Solid Waste Action Plan by <br />Massachusetts Public Interest Research Group, was noted. The plan has <br />been designed to eliminate the health, environmental and economic <br />hazards created by short -- sighted and indiscriminate handling of solid <br />waste and calls for action on the programs funded and mandated by the <br />Legislature's 1987 Solid Waste Act,, <br />Mrs. Smith noted that the program has not yet been approved by the <br />Waste Management Task Force and needs further exploration before a <br />position is taken. <br />Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted to express support <br />of the goals of MASSPIRG, but riot, at this point, to endorse the <br />substance of the Solid Waste Action Plan proposed. <br />PARKING RULES, BATTLE GREEN <br />Mr. Marshall pointed out that free all -day parking is practiced <br />around the Lexington Green and asked that the issue be referred to the <br />Lexington Center Committee or the Traffic Safety Advisory Committee for <br />review and recommendations. <br />ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN <br />The Executive Clerk called for nominations for Chairman of the <br />Board. <br />Mrs. Smith's name was placed in nomination. <br />There being no further nominations, a vote was called for. <br />By unanimous vote, Jacquelyn R. Smith was elected as Chairman of <br />the Board of Selectmen for the ensuing year. <br />Mr. Eddison spoke of how greatly he had enjoyed his terms as <br />Chairman of the Board for the past two years and expressed his <br />appreciation to his fellow Selectmen, Town Counsel, Town Manager and <br />Executive Clerk for their support and assistance to him as Chairman. <br />Mrs. Smith noted Mr. Eddison's tireless work for the good of the <br />Board and of the Town and thanked him for his excellent Chairmanship. <br />Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted to adjourn at <br />10 :49 p.m. <br />A true record, Attest: <br />Marion H. now <br />Executive Clerk <br />
