, 2- <br />Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted to endorse the <br />proposal o f the Human Services Committee for a Public Hearing on priorities <br />for long -range community needs, as part of strategic planning process for <br />the year 2,000. The Board also voted to authorize the Chairman to co -sign a <br />letter of i n v i t a t i o n to the hearing. <br />LOCAL AID DISTRIBUTION <br />Mr. Hutchinson referenced the response of Governor Dukakis to a letter <br />from Mrs Eddi son regarding Local Aid D i s t r i b u t i o n , which stated that the <br />Town has received new aid in FY87 of $454 He noted that of that <br />amount, $290,000 is for direct educational offset items and that the amount <br />of new local assistance is actually +$164,00II. Mr. Hutchinson asked <br />approval of a draft letter to the Governor, painting out this error. <br />Question was raised by Mr. Eddi son as to the advisability of this <br />procedure and whether, in the light of future funding requests to the State <br />i . e. for Bedford Street construction, it might serve to antagonize the <br />Governor. He said he would he in favor of sending the letter if it would be <br />of help in getting increased aid . <br />Mr. Marshall was in favor o f sending the l e t t e r and said if it was not <br />to he sent by the Board he would personally communicate the message to the <br />Governor. <br />Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted to authorize the Chairman to sign the letter t o Governor Dukakis as referenced aho v e . <br />UPDATED SPREAD SHEET <br />Mr. Hutchinson reviewed with the Board an updated spread sheet <br />reflecting financial articles approved, with free cash adjusted <br />accordingly. Details of explanation to he presented to Town Meeting was <br />discussed. <br />MINUTES OF MARCH 2S 31 APRIL 2. 198E <br />Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted to approve as <br />presented the minutes of Sel ec tmen - s Meetings on March 25, March 31, and <br />April 2, 19$E0 <br />SCHOOL CROSSING SIGNS HANCOCK & BURL I NGTGN STREETS DIAMOND JR . HIGH <br />Peter Chal p i n , Chairman of the Traffic Safety Advisory Committee, was <br />present for review by the Board of the Traffic Committee's recommendations <br />on the request of Mrs. Ashmanskas' request for signing at the Diamond Jr. <br />High School driveway on Hancock Street. <br />The Committee recommended that two *School Crossing' signs he <br />installed, one on Hancock Street and one on Burlington Street and that <br />installations be delayed until after completion of construction of Hancock <br />Street, to begin in a few weeks. <br />Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted to approve the <br />recommendations of the Traffic Safety Advisory Committee on the request of <br />Mrs, Ashman sk as , as stated above, <br />
