a � <br />s <br />a <br />f <br />SELECTMEN ' S MEETI N G <br />March 11, 1986 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on Tuesday, March <br />12 1986, in the Selectmen's Meet Room, Town Office Building, at 7:90 <br />p.m. Chairman Marshall, Mr. Eddison, Mr. Dailey, Mrs, Smith, Mr, McSweeney; <br />Manag Mr. Cohen <br />Mr. Hutchinson, Town Mann <br />� r ; Town Counsel; Ms. Adler, Assistant <br />to the Town Manager; Mrs. Snow, Executive Clerk, were present. <br />EUBLLCHEARING BOSTON EDISONff EMERALD STREET <br />The ChaJrman opened a public hearing on the petition of Boston Edison <br />Company for p ermission to install a utility pole on Emerald Street. <br />Mr. Chisholm, representing the Edison Company, explained the ur ose of <br />the installation at the reques P F <br />st of the Town, for lighting of a home being <br />constructed by Vo Tech School. students. <br />There being no further comments in favor or in opposition, the hearing <br />.was declared closed. <br />Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted to grant p ermission to <br />Boston Edison Company to install one utility pole on Emerald Street <br />southwesterly side approximately 123 feet southwest of Bellflower Street and <br />to lay and maintain underground laterals, cables and wires for the ose ur <br />P p <br />of making connections with such poles and buildings as said etitioner may <br />Y <br />desire for distributing purposes. <br />COMPTROLLER CANDIDATE <br />The Board interviewed Ruth Lewis, 41 Grandview Avenue, Melrose , a <br />candidate for the position of Comptroller. Ms. ho has been em to <br />as City Controller f - Lewis, ' p yed <br />f or Malden, outlined her educational background and her <br />professional experience to dates She informed the Board that she is the <br />successful candidate for an opening in Melrose but that it would be ossible <br />for her to accept the Lexington job, p <br />p 9 ] , if she is chosen. <br />Selection of one of three final candidates will be made in the near <br />future. <br />MINUTES <br />Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted to approve the minutes <br />of the Selectmen's Meeting on February 11, 1986, as presented. <br />TRAFF'IC COMMITTEE REPORT <br />!!&CONIA STREET SPEED LIMIT <br />The Board again reviewed the request of Laconia Street residents for <br />lowered speed limit on that street and the recommendation of the Traffic <br />Safety Advisory Committee on the matter. <br />} <br />Peter Chalpin, Chairman of the Traffic Committee, reported that records <br />show that none of the six accidents which have occurred on Laconia Street in <br />the past five pears has been speed related. He indicated on a ma the Town <br />accepted and P <br />p privately owned portions of Laconia Street and noted that the <br />Town has jurisdiction only o n the accepted portion. <br />
