Article 5 — Sale of the Munroe School. The Committee engaged in extended
discussion of Warrant Article 5, the proposed sale of the Munroe School. Among other
things, the Committee discussed the final draft of an Award Letter that the Town
Manager had circulated the previous Friday reflecting the results of negotiations between
the Town Manager and the Lexington Friends of the Arts, Inc. d /b /a Munroe Center for
the Arts on the final terms of a purchase and sale agreement. Mr. Wood advised the
Committee that he intended to make a motion for indefinite postponement of this article
at the Special Town Meeting session scheduled later in the evening, and made a brief
presentation on his reasons for the motion. Other guests at the meeting also spoke against
approval of Article 5 at this Special Town Meeting and in favor of indefinite
postponement to allow more time for public review of and input on the proposal. The members who voted no indicated that they would not rule out the
possibility of supporting a future proposal for the sale of the Munroe School if the matter
is raised again.
