LDAC
EXINGTON ESIGN DVISORY OMMITTEE

January 5, 2010

To: Board of Appeals Staff

Re: 324 Marret Road, Gulf/Cumberland Farms Gas Station, Lexington, MA
Modifications to existing signs

At its regular meeting on December 2, 2009 the DAC reviewed the submittals to modify the existing
signs at the address noted above and offered the following comments and recommendations.

Committee prefers existing canopy colors and sign to that proposed but noted that the canopy
appears to need repair

No internally illuminated signs on canopy

No clouds on canopy, looks like to busy and too much like a billboard

Committee prefers existing exterior canopy lighting and would like to see only the name
illuminated with the existing down light, entire canopy does not need to be lit.

Committee would like to see the proposed color scheme on the canopy and building simplified
fewer colors if possible. Eliminate one of the white bands.

Dispenser valance generally ok, simplify colors

No additional Gulf signage on body of the dispensers, single color scheme is ok

Would like to see metal frame of freestanding sign repainted a darker color

The Design Advisory Committee can not recommend approval of this application and recommends the
applicant return to the DAC for further review once changes have been mad to the current application.

Respectfully submitted,

Timothy D. Lee, ASLA, Chairman
Lexington Design Advisory Committee

Cc: Board of Selectmen
