ARTICLE 29 APPROPRIATE FOR WATER DISTRIBUTION IMPROVEMENTS <br /> To see if the Town will vote to install new water mains and replace or clean and line existing <br /> water mains in such accepted or unaccepted streets or other land as the Selectmen may <br /> determine, subject to the assessment of betterments or otherwise, and to take by eminent domain, <br /> purchase or otherwise acquire any fee, easement or other interest in land necessary therefor; <br /> appropriate money for such installation and land acquisition and determine whether the money <br /> shall be provided by the tax levy, by transfer from available funds, including any special water <br /> funds, or by borrowing, or by any combination of these methods, to determine whether the Town <br /> will authorize the Selectmen to apply for, accept, expend and borrow in anticipation of federal <br /> and state aid for such projects, or act in any other manner in relation thereto <br /> (Inserted by the Board of Selectmen) <br /> FUNDS REQUESTED $900,000 <br /> DESCRIPTION This is part of a three-year project to re-line or replace approximately <br /> 8,000 linear feet of obsolete water line town wide Some of the sections of water main to be <br /> addressed in FY2007 include portions of Hill Street, Hilltop Avenue, Revere Street and <br /> Prospect Hill Road, Waltham Street from Mass Ave to Forest Street, Bedford Street near <br /> Worthen Road, and North Hancock Street. <br /> ARTICLE 30 APPROPRIATE FOR WATER METERS <br /> To see if the Town will vote to appropriate a sum of money to complete the purchase of an <br /> automated water meter reading system for the Department of Public Works, to determine <br /> whether the money shall be provided by the tax levy, by transfer from available funds, including <br /> any special water and sewer funds, or by borrowing, or by any combination of these methods, to <br /> determine whether the Town will authorize the Selectmen to apply for, accept, expend and <br /> borrow in anticipation of state aid, or act in any other manner in relation thereto <br /> (Inserted by the Board of Selectmen) <br /> FUNDS REQUESTED $500,000 <br /> DESCRIPTION This funding request is to purchase and install 3,392 water meters to <br /> complete the updating of all residential water meters in the town. The cost of each meter is <br /> between $83 and $136, depending on the size, plus an installation cost of$74 50 The Town <br /> expects to begin saving money within 3-5 years as a result of more efficient and accurate <br /> meter reading. Completion of this project will also facilitate quarterly meter reading and <br /> billing. <br /> 23 <br />
