- 4 - <br />4� <br />Mrs. Hals explained that the Committee felt that heavier barriers would <br />provide more protection for the passengers as well as being more sturdy and <br />would have to be replaced less frequently. <br />The Manager pointed out that he supported the request as an experiment <br />but stated that there were objections from the Police Department. He stated <br />that Capt. Lima's concern was that vehicles might not see the structures and <br />they would be knocked down. The issue of plowing was also raised, <br />Mr. Busa objected on the grounds that motorists.tha.t did not see the <br />barriers would have a great. deal more d amage-done to their ears than if they <br />hit the plastic barriers now being u ed. <br />Mrs. Battin made a motion to grant permission for the installation of <br />the barriers on a trial basis for three months and review it again then. <br />Mr. Busa also expressed concern that the barriers suggested would only <br />be three feet high and suggested that the Committee consider reversing the <br />area used for pick -up and exiting the busses and have passengers board and <br />exit the busses from the sideway side. He reiterated his concern regarding <br />the low height of the barriers and that there were no reflectors on then. <br />There was no second to Mrs. Battin's motion. <br />The matter will be discussed again on July 26 at which time there will <br />be an indepth report from the Traffic Safety Officer and the Department of <br />Public Works relative to the safety and efficiency of the requested barriers. <br />Muzzey school The Board met with members of the Planning Board relative to its re- <br />port to the Board regarding the future proposals for use of Muey School. <br />Mrs. Smith explained that the Planning Board had discussed the reuse of the <br />school at its July 6 meeting. Steven Baran, Chairman, Human Services Corn - <br />mittee; Donald Giller of the Muzzey School Conversion Committee and Margaret <br />Rawls, Chairman, TM MA had also attended that meeting. <br />Mrs. Smith stated that the Planning Board feels ' tha.t it can have a <br />Planning Beard set of criteria of housing it would like to see proposed <br />for Muzzey within thirty clays so that .the Board ' could prepare its charge for <br />the Committee. <br />Bill Page from the Forum on Aging stated that his committee would like <br />to make sure that the Planning Board and the Human Services Committee takes <br />into account the voting that took place at the Forum on Aging relating to <br />elderly housing and the elderly needs. <br />George from the Council on Aging stated that his Committee <br />would like to have representation on the new Muzzey School Conversion Com- <br />mittee. <br />The Manager submitted a timetable as a guideline which called for <br />submission by boards and agencies of their reports to the Board of elect - <br />men by August 9 through review by Ad Hoc Committee, recommendation to the <br />Board of selectmen, appointment of new Muey Committee, advertising for <br />proposals, review by committee of proposals and decision by Board of <br />Selectmen on or about November ; preparing and holding a special town <br />meeting in late November or early December. <br />The Chairman thanked Mrs. Smith and others in attendance for their <br />input and they retired from the meeting. <br />Coin.
