ADJOUR TOWN MEETING - MARCH 24, 1975 <br /> The meeting was called to order in Cary Memorial Hall at 8 P. M. by <br /> Moderator, Lincoln P. Cole, Jr. <br /> There were 192 Town Meeting Members present. <br /> The invocation was offered by Monsignor John P. Keilty, Pastor of St. Brigid "s <br /> Church. 8:02 P. M. <br /> Article 40. Presented by Francis W. K. Smith. <br /> MOTION: That $2,000,000 be appropriated for acquiring land for <br /> open space and conservation purposes, including outdoor recreation, <br /> under G.L. c.40, s.8C as amended; and that the Treasurer with the <br /> approval of the Selectmen is authorized to borrow $2,000,000 under <br /> G.L. c.44, s.7(3) as amended; and that the Conservation Commission, <br /> pursuant to a vote or votes to be hereafter adopted at an annual <br /> or any special town meeting designating the parcels of land to be <br /> acquired by eminent domain or otherwise, is authorized to take all <br /> action necessary to carry out the purposes of this vote. <br /> 8:03 P. M. <br /> Renee T. Cochin, an employee of Palmer & Dodge which serves as <br /> bond counsel to the Town of Lexington, abstained from voting on <br /> this article. <br /> Motion, as presented by Mr. Smith, declared carried unanimously. <br /> 8:09 P. M. <br /> Article 41. Presented by Angela E. Frick. <br /> MOTION: That this article be tabled. <br /> Carried by voice vote. 8:10 P. M. <br /> (See Page 51.) <br /> Article 42. Presented by Angela E. Frick. <br /> MOTION: That the Conservation Commission be authorized to purchase <br /> or otherwise acquire, and the Selectmen be authorized to take by <br /> eminent domain, upon the written request of the Conservation Commis - <br /> sion, for conservation purposes including outdoor recreation as <br /> provided by Section 8C of Chapter 40 of the General Laws, any fee, <br /> easement or conservation restriction as defined in Section 31 of <br /> Chapter 184 of the General Laws or other interest in all or any <br /> part of land shown as Lot 14 on Assessors' Property Map 87, now or <br /> formerly of May; that the sum of $6,000.00 be appropriated for such <br /> land acquisition, and that such amount be raised in the tax levy. <br /> 8 :11 P. M. <br /> Permission was granted to Sue Solomon, a member of the Conserva- <br /> tion Commission, to explain this article. <br /> * (see below) <br /> After general discussion,/ Richa.rd W. Souza moved to amend the <br /> motion by striking the figure $6,000.00 and substituting therefor <br /> the figure $10,000.00. 8:32 P. M. <br /> Allan F. Kenney stated that the Board of Selectmen unanimously <br /> oppose the amendment and are in favor of the main motion. <br /> 8: 39 P. M. <br /> Richard A. Michelson asked if the land was for sale or is it to be <br /> taken. Sue Solomon answered that the owners would be willing to <br /> sell for $13,000.00. 8 :39 P. M. <br /> Charles H. Cole, 2nd moved the previous question which was declared <br /> carried by voice vote. 8:41 P. M. <br /> Amendment to the main motion, as offered by Mr. Souza, declared <br /> lost by voice vote. 8:41 P.
