2 - <br />r <br />"Officer Brian ", as he is called by the students , explained <br />P <br />his work with Elementary School 5th graders, who will be criven an <br />18 week course of 45 minute lessons, each week, and told of P lans <br />to include grades K through 4 in the course. He felt that he had <br />made friends with the children, spending time with them at recess <br />and lunch periods and that good relationships and improved <br />communication between the Police Force and students had been <br />established. <br />T- shirts and bumper stickers, showing the D.A.R.E. logo, <br />were distributed to Board members. It is hoped that these shirts <br />can be given to each student completing the course. <br />Mr. Marshall noted that this fine program had been made <br />possible by the approval of the June, 1990 ovei- proposal by <br />citizens of the Town. <br />Mrs. Smith thanked Officer Spencer for his report on the <br />highly successful program and expressed the appreciation of the <br />Board for his positive impact on the youth ofthe Town. She <br />invited him to return with further updates from time to time. <br />MINUTES <br />Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted to approve <br />the minutes of the Selectmen's meeting on November 5, 1990. <br />CLASS IV LICENSES MAL'S C &W TRANSPORTATION <br />The Board reviewed the applications of Mal's Night and Day <br />Towing Company and C & W Transportation, Inc. for Class IV <br />Licenses, now required for auto repair and towing companies undF- <br />recently enacted State legislation, <br />Mrs. Smith read a statement from Chief Furdon that both <br />applicants, John Henry of C & W Transportation, and Malcolm <br />Keljikian, Mal's Night and Day Towing, are individuals of <br />excellent reputation. <br />There were no comments or questions from the Board. <br />Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted to approve <br />the applications of Malcolm Keljikian, Mal's Night & Day Towing <br />Company, and John E. Henry, Jr., C & W Transportation, Inc. for <br />Class IV License, effective as of January 1, 1991, expiring on <br />January 1, 1992. <br />WASTE MANAGEMENT TASK FORCE DISSOLVED <br />Mrs. Smith recapped the excellent work of the Waste <br />Management Task Force which has worked with Richard Spiers, <br />Director of Public Works since 1987, in areas of recycling, <br />household hazardous waste, composting and solid waste. <br />The Task Force has now fulfilled its Charge and wishes to <br />become a Committee. The Board reviewed a draft Charge to the <br />Waste Management Committee, prepared by Mrs. Smith, who has acted <br />as the Selectmen's Liaison to the Task Force and who recommended <br />the Board's approval of the change. <br />Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted to dissolve <br />the Waste Management Task Force and to adopt the Charge to the <br />Waste Management Committee, as presented. <br />
