. <br /> 2 6 6 ADJOURNED SESSION OF THE 1983 ANNUAL TOW MEETING <br /> MAY 16, 1983 <br /> The meeting was called to order by the Moderator, Lincoln P. Cole, Jr. at <br /> 8 P.M. in Cary Memorial Hall and immediately recessed, subject to the call of <br /> the Chair. The meeting was reconvened at 8:08 P.M. <br /> There were 179 Town Meeting Members present. <br /> Invocation was offered by Rev. Brian S. Dixon, Pastor of the First Baptist <br /> Church. 8:10 P.M. <br /> Chairman of the Board of Selectmen, James F. Crain read Selectmen'.s Proclama- <br /> tions for Michael M. Fiveash and Maureen T. Sullivan who were both named by the <br /> Battle Green Chapter, Order of DeMolay as recipients of its 1983 Exemplary <br /> Teacher Awards and they both received standing ovations. <br /> 8:1.3 P.M. <br /> Mr. Crain then read the names of the following members and novices of the <br /> Lexington High School Debating Team and asked them to come to the front of the <br /> hall: David Adler, Adrienne Della Penna, John Harkrider, Mark Friedman, <br /> Aaron Pressman, Mark Prutsalis, Mark Passamonti, Laura Dietz, Gary Stone, Sam <br /> Thernstrom, Jon Putnam, Jessica Wang, Matt Jensen and Mat Palmer. <br /> Novices: Ilona Fried, Suzie Delbanco, Eric Rheinstein, Geoff Dapice, Mark <br /> Soukup, Sven Olsen, Joseph Choo, Janet Wong and Chris Velis. <br /> Mr. Crain .read a Selectmen's Proclamation honoring the Lexington High School <br /> Debating Team who has won the New England District championship and further <br /> received State and National recognition by winning or placing in top spots in <br /> said tournaments. The team received an ovation from the meeting. 8:15 P.M. <br /> Stephen W. Doran read an official citation from the House of Representatives. <br /> Article 47. LEXPRESS <br /> MINI -BUS TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM <br /> Presented by James F. Crain. <br /> (See MOTION: That the sum of $220,000 be appropriated for a local <br /> Page 267 transportation system, that such amount be raised in the tax levy, <br /> for motion and that the Selectmen be authorized to apply for, accept and <br /> as adopted) expend funds from the M.B.T.A. or any other governmental agency in <br /> connection with such local transportation system, and to contract <br /> with a private transit company to provide transportation services. <br /> 8:18 P.M. <br /> Sally T. Castleman, Chairman of the Transportation Advisory <br /> Committee, gave a review of the past and future of LEXPRESS. <br /> LEXPRESS Ridership 1982 -83 <br /> 17 .riders per vehicle hour. <br /> 110 6 or over <br /> 33% over 18 <br /> 47% shop in Lexington more often <br /> 27% could not make trip otherwise <br /> 42 have no need of all day parking <br /> 52 fewer cars in Lexington <br /> 194 auto trips eliminated daily. <br /> PROJECTED BUDGET 1982 -83 <br /> Costs: Buses $220,700 <br /> Administration 10,600 <br /> Chair Car 5,000 <br /> Total $236,300 <br /> PROPOSED BUDGET 1983 -84 <br /> Costs: Buses $257,000 <br /> Administration 13,000 <br /> Chair Car 5,0 00 <br /> Total $275,000 <br />
