PROCLAMATION
Whereas: Paul Coven Shupe,a native of Loveland,Colorado,graduated from Graceland College in Lamoni,Iowa
with a degree in History and Religious Studies and was ordained by the United Church of Christ thirty-
four years ago;and
Whereas: Reverend Paul C. Shupe continued to pursue his education earning a Master of Divinity from Vanderbilt
University in Nashville,Tennessee and a Doctorate of Ministry from Columbia Theological Seminary;
and
Whereas: Reverend Dr. Paul C. Shupe has served Congregations in the United Church of Christ in Falmouth,
Maine;Madison,Wisconsin;and Lexington,Massachusetts;and
Whereas: Reverend Dr. Paul C. Shupe has faithfully served as the eleventh Senior Minister of Hancock United
Church of Christ,adjacent to the Historic Battle Green in Lexington,Massachusetts,changing the world
with love,compassion and courage for eleven and a half years;and
Whereas: Reverend Dr.Paul C. Shupe has served the Town of Lexington with his caring,compassionate and
public-minded spirit as a Board Member of the Fund for Lexington,as a member of the Cary Memorial
Library Board of Trustees and as an active member of the Lexington interfaith Clergy Association
(LICA);and
Whereas: Reverend Dr.Paul C. Shupe's outreach to the community goes beyond the town's boundaries by
ministering to those living in assisted and skilled care facilities in other communities as well as working
with mission partners locally,nationally and internationally for the good of all.
NOW THEREFORE, WE, THE SELECT BOARD of the Town of Lexington,Massachusetts,do hereby recognize
Reverend Doctors Paul Coven Shupe
for his many years of service,not only to Lexington,but to all whose lives he touched and who have been helped by him.
We extend our sincere best wishes to him on his Retirement.
