Lexington Youth Commission
Minutes of the meeting held on Wednesday, September 16th, 2020
Members Present: Debbie Hankins, Shannon DeGuglielmo, Kristina Hankins, Tom Romano,

We held our first LYC meeting of the 2020-2021 year on Wednesday, September 16th, 2020.
First we introduced our new recruits: Isabel Konijnenberg, Adeline Favazzo, Nicholas Keim,
Ava Tomaro, and Duncan Maloney.
Our president Katie Devine went over the commitment expectations for members of LYC and
team leaders who will remind their group members of upcoming meetings.
We later discussed possible ideas for ways to continue our community service and raising money
for the Lexington Food Pantry (our first event)while following social distancing guidelines.
Raising money for Lexington Food Pantry
Maddie Lucente mentioned a discounted pizza deal at blaze pizza in Burlington, we would buy
and sell these discounts that Blaze offers and receive 20% of the profit from the pizzas purchased
with the coupons.
Duncan Maloney brought up a"Friendly Flamingo' idea -buying and selling plastic flamingos
to families to place on their other friends or families yard as a fun pick me up/joke. We would
put the profits from the flamingos towards the Lexington Food Pantry.
Elena Sabin mentioned designing, buying, and selling Lexington masks to help raise money.
Other Possibilities for Community Service Events:
Max DiCerbo and Matthew Favazzo mentioned something the LHS football team does every
year - having a couple people go and clean up yards for those who sign up for it.
Regina Tashjian brought up a trash cleanup around Lexington with small groups going to
clean-up the town center, center fields, lincoln fields, LHS, and the bike paths.
Annabel Cincotta mentioned donating masks to Cradles to Crayons which can be donated online.
Suzie Barry mentioned delivering snack packs to those who sign up for it.
Holiday Raffles Tickets
Matthew Favazzo asked if we would hold our raffle holiday fundraiser, we've concluded there
are many ways to sell raffle tickets while staying healthy/safe.
Skylar Spencer asked how we would be able to sell raffle tickets to neighbors/other people
besides family members while still making sure people feel comfortable.
Annabel Cincotta suggested we post on the LYC Instagram about the raffles and see if people
want to purchase them via Venmo.
Elena Sabin mentioned printing and putting up QR codes around town as a link to the raffle
tickets to help spread the word online.
Nicholas Keim brought up the idea of sending letters to neighbors to ask if they want to buy a
raffle ticket to reduce physical contact with neighbors if they do or don't want to buy a ticket.
Lexington Food Pantry Can Drive:
Regina Tashjian mentioned a neighborhood can drive by reaching out to neighbors via mail.
Shannon DeGuglielmo introduced our first community service event which is the can drive. She
bought 600 paper bags to collect cans in, and mentioned having drop off areas so people's
porches aren't over crowded with cans or too many people coming by.
Annabel Cincotta mentioned having team leaders drop off the bags to each member of their
team.
Isabel Konijnenberg mentioned attaching a printed QR code to the paper bags so if people don't
have cans on hand, they can donate money to the link on the QR code.
Annabel Cincotta mentioned having an online flyer to send out to people not in the neighborhood
but still close by.
Karen Duperey mentioned putting a flyer in the newspaper.
Suzie Barry questioned what makes our can drive different from a can drive at Stop and Shop or
other can drives, she mentioned asking people to help us reach our goal of"5,000 cans" for
example, or we could give them a free flamingo (reference to Duncan's "Friendly Flamingo"
idea).
Next we discussed our LYC sweatshirts/T-shirts, which Maddie Lucente and Kristina Hankins
are in charge of.
Tom closed the meeting up by discussing helping out with a Grab-and-Go halloween bag that the
Community Center Food Services is trying to put together.
Our next meeting will be October 8th, 2020 at 7pm via Zoom.
