HomeMy WebLinkAbout2020-05-06-YC-min Town of Lexington Lexington Youth Commission Minutes of the meeting held on Wednesday,May 6th, 2020 (over Zoom) Members Present: Debbie Hankins, Shannon DeGuglielmo, Kristina Hankins, Tom Romano, Alessia Caira, Anthony Mabardy, Serena Caira, Annabel Cincotta, Katie Devine, Oliver DiCerbo, Matthew Favazzo, Ella Lucente, Madelyn Lucente, Peyton Campbell, Ella Thomas, Becca Wilkinson, Andrew Lawrence, Carolyn Lane, Mehr Khurana, Neeka Pirooz, Elena Sabin, Shea Freda, Sophia Lupone, Kennice Brennan, Emily Rosenthal, Avery Cutler, Camelia Atassi, Summer Spencer, Skylar Spencer, Charles Mabardy, Isabella Barrett, Ipek Kendreioglu, Regina Tashjian, Jack Maloney, Jim Marilyn Swinger, Ava Barrentine, Hobie Swan Members Absent: Myles Cutler, Max DiCerbo, Marina Chen, Sandy Ramon, Joe Hankins, Jim Athens We discussed new recruits for the 2020-2021 school year. We will only be accepting freshmen and sophomores in order to avoid having everybody graduate at the same time. Attached is the application for you to forward to new interested recruits.. The completed application is due to Deb no later than May 25, 2020. We spoke about community service opportunities that can be done from home. Some options include "Bee a Blessing" Card Drive and "Letters to Elders." An idea was also brought up about doing neighborhood can/ clothing drives. Members decided to do the clothing drive now, Deb and Shannon will work on the logistics of droping off your donations. Members decided to have the can drive in the Fall for the food pantry. Elena Sabin is helping her Dad in Waltham with groceries for families in need at his middle school. If you are interested in shopping for a family, or you know someone who would like to donate to the cause, please reach out to her. Tom Romano discussed a community service opportunity of helping to teach community members how to use Zoom. The following said they were interested in helping create an instructional video/teach a class: Maddie, Regina, Mehr, Isabella and Andrew. Anybody else who may be interested should email Tom at trounano��lexintomna.gov We brainstormed ideas on how to celebrate our seniors. Shannon shared her idea, along with other members sharing current ongoing projects, including sponsoring a Lexington Senior. Shannon will update us as more information becomes available. We discussed ways of fiend raising for the food pantry in the fall while implementing social distancing; these fundraisers would be done if the car wash cannot happen in September. We spoke about the possibility of doing food drives, specifically neighbor can drives. We discussed the fiiture of LYC and how to stay connected during quarantine. Our next Zoom meeting will be on Thursday, June 11th at 7:00pm. Anthony also mentioned that some t-shirts were not picked up at the last meeting.
