HomeMy WebLinkAbout2020 National Library Week Proclamation ZoWn of lexington, 1T1aq!5arbu.5ett_q SELECT BOARD APRIL tlp"w Proclamation Whereas: libraries create potential and possibilities within their communities,campuses and schools;and Whereas: libraries level the playing field for all who seek information and access to technologies; and Whereas: libraries continuously grow and evolve in how they provide for the needs of every member of their communities;and Whereas: libraries and librarians open up a world of possibilities through innovative programing,access to technology and the power of reading;and Whereas: librarians are trained,tech-savvy professionals,providing technology training and access to downloadable content like e-books; and Whereas: libraries support democracy and effect social change through their commitment to provide equitable access to information for all library users regardless of race,ethnicity,creed,ability,sexual orientation,gender identity or socio-economic status;and Whereas: libraries, librarians, library workers and supporters across America are celebrating National Library Week;and Whereas: Tuesday,April 21,2020 has been designated as National Library Workers day in appreciation of their work; and Whereas: Cary Memorial Library in Lexington,Massachusetts is located in the heart of the Town center and the library and library workers provide an invaluable service to the citizens of Lexington with compassion,understanding and professionalism. NOW, THEREFORE, IVE, THE SELECT BOARD of the Town of Lexington,Massachusetts do hereby proclaim the week of April 19 to 25,2020 as National Library Week in the Town of Lexington and encourage all citizens to join us in recognizing the staff of the Cary Memorial Library and further encourage all citizens to take advantage of the wonderful library resources available.
