Community Center campus, tennis and basketball courts, Center Recreation Complex, <br /> bikeways, walking trails, the skate park, outdoor basketball courts, multi-use athletic <br /> fields and neighborhood parks and playgrounds; <br /> • Acquire land for active and passive recreation, including playing fields; consideration <br /> should be given to recreational uses whenever the Town looks to acquire additional open <br /> space; <br /> • Provide integration of recreational activities, such as the CPA-supported West Lexington <br /> Greenway for bicycles and walkers, with other Town Departments, such as the <br /> Conservation Department; <br /> • Provide high quality, year round, accessible balance of recreation and leisure activities <br /> (active and passive, structured and unstructured, indoor and outdoor) for residents of <br /> Lexington; and <br /> • Collaborate with Town Departments in continuous planning and implementing recreation <br /> and leisure opportunities for residents of all ages and abilities at the Community Center. <br /> RECOMMENDATIONS <br /> • Acquire and create additional athletic fields to meet the increasing needs of the <br /> community. <br /> • Acquire and create new active recreational resources, including playing fields and <br /> playgrounds, with special attention to universal access, as well as adult/senior and toddler <br /> recreational needs. <br /> • Increase recreational access/use of open spaces and natural resources (where <br /> appropriate), including areas for hiking, bicycling, cross-country skiing, and fishing. <br /> • Preserve,protect, and improve Lexington's recreational infrastructure through <br /> rehabilitation and restoration of existing recreation facilities as outlined in the <br /> Recreation 5-Year Capital Plan, the Open Space and Recreation Plan, the 2014-2016 <br /> Recreation Strategic Plan, and the 2017 Recreation Facilities and ADA Compliance <br /> Study. <br /> • Take preservation, rehabilitation, and restoration measures to extend the life and use of <br /> existing recreational facilities, such as neighborhood parks and playgrounds, tennis <br /> courts, as well as larger projects including the Center Recreation Complex, Irving H. <br /> Mabee Town Pool Complex, Old Reservoir, Pine Meadows Golf Club, and Community <br /> Center campus. <br /> 21 <br />
