consider the need- of the' Fire Department , an'd of the Committee
on Water Supply, was "continued, to investigate and report' "a't the
next annual meeting of the town, ''
In accordance wi th th i - vote, the Joint Committee
report as follows ;--

capacity per day, and his tak --n steps to construct a large stor-
age basin in the meadow above its works. It ' has made no ' provi -
Sion, however, fo.r an additional ' tank , and. we reiterate, therefore,
our re.commend�ation of last year " that the town insist that the
I later Company erect an additional tank or stand pipe on a suf-
ficiently high elevation, ,.4hich it shall keep filled at' all times
with water, and to be used only in case of fir-e'' and "that no
further contract should be made with the later Company which
does not provide. for such additional tank or for-better pro-
tect ion in some other reasonable method."

v,�.ntq.ge under which the Fire Department hat: labored in not being
able to loc7te ' these fires promptly and 'to bring the chemical
engines, -which are of use only in the early stages of a fire, -
into service quickly.
In view of these facts, we endor7e Articles 23 and 27 of the
I arrant for the present Town Meeting relating, respectively,
a fire Alarm System ;and 'to additional a-opropriation" for
the Fire. Department . We are convinced that the present
