matter of Wooden gas Pipes.

They find that the only sec-
tions of ?Tooden pipe now in use in any
of the streets are confined to that
part of fain street between Clark and
the Woburn road.

Too much importance cannot be
attached to the necessity of the im-
mediate removal -af all the wooden
pipes in the ta77n. kotbing -bas
ever damaged the town so much as the
Lexington ' Gas '-Light Company; the
beautiful trees which were destroy-

At t_'fat time, however, on account
of the financial condition of the com-
pany, it was utterly useless to try to
recover damages, and the matter has been
passed over to the personal loss of
the property holders on that street.
Every citizen In Lexington should be
. interested to urevent a recurrence of
any suc'n calamity.
After seeing a piece of the
wooden pipe, not long since taken

from Main street, and looking at
the deal and dying trees in front
of Y -Plumer 's place, , the committee
were - inclined to advise the town ` to
take such steps as vould force the
company to re-lay this section at
once, � .th iron pipes, but, in their
interviews wit'i Mr. Wentworth they
found teat the conditions , of the
company, financial and otherwise,
mere far better than formerly, and
that it gas disposed to do what was
night in this and other matters.
The 'committee do not ..,4 sh to
appear antaoonistic_ to the - company
,ender these circumstances, and, as
Mr. Went.prtr promises to attend to
the relaying of this section ��ith
iron pipes within three months, t1,ey
would suggest that the torn wait that
length of time before acting , fvrther-,
and, if the matter is not then attend-
ed to, to move in a most vigorous
manner.
