Corr, Chief of Police <br /> <br /> <br />GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS AND GUIDELINES <br /> <br />All employees of the Lexington Police Department shall abide by a Code of Ethics. Both <br />civilian and sworn members will abide by the principles consistent with this policy, and <br />any and all training that employees receive will be documented in the employee’s training <br />file. The files will be maintained in the Town Clerk’s office. Training will be conducted at <br />least biennially. <br /> <br />A statement of employee responsibilities and conduct is a necessity for any police <br />department. Requiring employees to abide by a code or canon of ethics is the first step <br />toward true professionalism in police service. <br /> <br />A. Code of Ethics <br /> <br />1. Sworn Personnel: <br /> <br />The International Association of Chiefs of Police adopted the following <br />code of ethics. This code of ethics is hereby adopted by the Lexington <br />Police Department for sworn personnel. <br /> <br />As a law enforcement officer, my fundamental duty is to serve the <br />community; to safeguard lives and property; to protect the <br />innocent against deception, the weak against oppression or <br />intimidation, and the peaceful against violence or disorder; and to <br />respect the constitutional rights of all to liberty, equality and <br />justice. <br /> <br /> I will keep my private life unsullied as an example to all and will <br />behave in a manner that does not bring discredit to my agency or <br />me. I will maintain courageous calm in the face of danger, scorn, <br />or ridicule; develop self-restraint; and be constantly mindful of the <br />welfare of others.
