Page 2 of 11 <br /> <br />Subsequently, he renewed a request to the Traffic Safety Group via the Town Manager to <br />study whether reducing the speed limit in the Center to 20 mph would be appropriate. <br /> Through the Town Manager, Mr. Pato has conveyed a request to the Parking <br />Management Group to study whether a senior citizen parking program might be feasible. <br /> As liaison to Sustainable Lexington and to the Economic Development Advisory <br />Committee, Mr. Pato asked the Selectmen to approve the two groups working <br />collaboratively to develop a possible plan to adopt a solar ordinance for commercial <br />construction, similar to what the Town of Watertown has recently adopted. Board <br />members were amenable for the committees to work together. <br /> The International Energy Conservation Code, which sets a baseline for the State’s <br />Building Code, is going to be revised. In the past, the Metropolitan Area Planning <br />Council (MAPC) and the Sierra Club have encouraged communities to sign up to <br />review/comment on update drafts and to vote on the IECC’s recommendations. The <br />Selectmen and other elected/appointed entities are eligible to participate. The deadline to <br />sign up is March 29, 2019. <br />Ms. Hai: <br /> Ms. Hai and Mr. Pato will attend the MAPC’s “Where Do We Go from Here” <br />transportation seminar scheduled for April 4, 2019. <br />Traffic Regulation: Freemont Street at Cedar Street and Sherburne Road <br />Sheila Page, Assistant Planner, spoke on behalf of the Transportation Safety Group (TSG) to ask <br />approval to install two stop signs on Freemont Street at Cedar Street and one yield sign on <br />Sherburne Road. <br />After viewing the proposed sign positions and understanding how they would improve safety, the <br />Selectmen agreed with TSG’s recommendations. <br />Upon motion duly made and seconded, the Board of Selectmen voted 5-0 to approve and sign the <br />Traffic Rules and Orders for a stop sign on Freemont Street northeast bound at Cedar Street; a <br />stop sign on Freemont Street southwest bound at Cedar Street; and a yield sign south bound at <br />Sherburne Road. <br />Superintendent of Schools—Update Regarding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion <br />Dr. Julie Hackett, Superintendent of Schools, presented a summary of the Lexington Schools’ <br />Administrative Council position paper entitled, "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Our Call to <br />Action." The 40-page paper points to evidence of inequity across many areas and for multiple <br />groups in the school system; it announces a plan to embark on a comprehensive, inclusive, and <br />transparent process to identify, address, and monitor progress toward creating an equitable <br />School environment. The final draft of the paper will be integrated into the future Strategic Plan <br />of the Lexington Public Schools. <br /> <br /> <br />
