4. Current Charge and Future Goals
Nancy Shepard,Melissa Interess,Melissa Battite,Christine Dean,and Doug Lucente all meet
to discuss the original charge of the Committee to see if the Committee should continue to
meet or if it has fulfilled the purpose it was created for.Nancy mentioned that the Committee
has been around since June of 2016 and she feel that the Committee has fulfilled its initial
intent; she has seen the customer service, the programming, and scheduling of the building
continue to grow since its opening. Nancy proposed dissolving the Committee and opened it
up to the group for feedback.
Francesca was on board with the idea as she says the Community Center is thriving. She
added that she thinks it would be good for there to be someone keeping checks and balances
in case something goes awry.
Archana wondered if the Town Manager is planning to merge other Committees to be more
efficient in the town.
Christine and Nancy brought up the idea of having a yearly summit meeting with other town
committees and stakeholders of the Community Center. The group liked this idea and decided
to bring it to a motion.
Nancy made the following motion: that the charge of the committee has been fulfilled, and
because ofsuch, we recommend to the Town Manager that the committee be dissolved. The
committee recommends that an annual meeting be held with Community Center stakeholders
and staff with thepurpose of soliciting suggestions and feedbackfrom town members.
Francesca Pfrommer seconded. The motion passed 4—0,with 3 absences.
It was clarified that other Community Stakeholders will be running these meetings along with
staff,and not the CCPAC.
5. Community CPR Program
Christine spoke to Skip Lovering and he said that any donations given into the Community
Center gift fund can be restricted for the CPR program. The concern is that if we name it a
memorial fund then it should be managed by the Trustees of Public Trusts. We should instead
call it the Dan Palant CPR Program.Nancy talked with Barbara Palant and she was not
comfortable with reaching out to Lexington Pediatrics as he had been out of the practice for
more than 5 years. Sandra was willing to write a letter to put in the Colonial Times when
needed.
6. Community Center,Recreation and Human services Updates
Christine told the group that a needs assessment will be happening as the last one was done in
2012 which was for the year 2014-2016. The Community Center is asking for funding from
the Dana Home Foundation to offer the Forever Fit program again. The Community Center,
along with the Lexington Field and Garden Club, is the recipient of a Bright Ideas grant
which has funded the construction of 4 raised garden beds at the Community Center.
Christine has also applied for funding to install an accessible walkway to the bluestone path
that is near the front of the Community Center. There will be a Community Stakeholder
meeting on March 13" to discuss summer plans for the groups in town. The Community
Center is looking to hire a Municipal Assistant for the Saturday shift. There have been 4
interviews so far.
Tom mentioned a new program called LHS Late Night Study break that will be happening
May 21"from 7-9pm.
