4. Liaison Report
Sandra Shaw reported that at the last COA meeting there was discussion about cheaper
options for senior housing. She also mentioned that the MLK Day of Service is coming up.
Sandra said that High School students will be going out on the MLK day of service to make
house calls to change light bulbs, change batteries, and run errands. Archana suggested that
Hemali put the MLK day of service in the Community Calendar or the Colonial Times so
other seniors are aware of it.
Mehr brought up an idea from the Youth Commission where they wanted to have a drive-in
at Lexington High School and they suggested to have a preview of the Community Center
before the movie started. Tom mentioned that if you show the movie outside there is a license
that you have to get, so they may try playing the movie inside. Mehr is going to take this info
back to the Youth Commission and get back to us. The spike ball tournament which was
mentioned in previous meetings was also briefly discussed.
Francesca said that the Recreation Committee settled on a 6 lane track with an 8 lane
straightaway.Next week's public meeting will discuss options for the infield and what
surface to use(hybrid, turf, or natural). The Committee is not hearing from the regular
townsperson, they want to know if people other than those involved in organized athletics
have an opinion on the track. There is still the possibility of having a lighted football field in
the middle of the track. Community group, LexSwim, approached the Recreation Committee
and were referred to work through Suzie Barry to establish a committee. They are looking to
have an indoor pool somewhere in Lexington since they Minuteman Tech facility will be
closed. Ling was wondering when the adhoc committee will be starting, no one is sure yet but
updates will be posted.
Archana mentioned that IAAL is looking for new programs to add and be a part of as they are
accepting new members.
5. CPR Memorial Fund Update
Nancy inquired if donations made will be tax deductible and the group was unsure. When the
flyer for the Daniel Palant fund is made, it was suggested to add a QR code to it so it would
be easier for people around town to access the donation page.Nancy has not followed up with
Barbara Palant yet but will by the next meeting.
Christine Dean reached out to the Finance Department to see if donations made to the
Community Center gift fund is possible. At this time we are waiting for further information.
6. Community Center,Recreation and Human Services Updates
Tom Romano reported that the Community Center has added a"purpose" column to the
drop-in sign in sheet so we can keep a track of what people are doing the drop-in rooms. The
Community Center has also added"No Commercial Business"to the room signs 245 &246
so that will help deter meetings/sales calls that should not be happening on Town-owned
property.
The athletic field lighting project is underway and they have already made great progress.
Pictures can be found on the Capital Projects page of the Recreation website.
Tom Romano reported that 70 kids went tubing on January 10 to Nashoba Valley Tubing
Park. On January 26 we will host the second annual Open House. There are 13 businesses
registered at the moment and we will be expecting a couple hundred people during the 4 hour
time block.
