ding and related facilities and fences at 1095 Massachusetts Avenueo

of the property showing the proposed locations of the requested air

received a legal notice of this bearing and felt that he should have.

error of the Clerk in not groperly sending a notice of hearing to the
Outerbridge residence. Mr. Cuterbridge expressed his approval and that
of his neighbors the Sukeforths of the King' s plans for their property.
10. King and Mr. Crosby presented scale drawings of the proposed addi-
tion and the two-car garage and photographs of the present garage and
the elevations of the dwelling involved in the addition. No other per-
sons having appeared, the hearing was closed at 9:42 P.M. sifter dis-
cussion, upon motions duly made and seconded, it was unanimously VOTED
to issue a Permit for Demolition or Removal and a Certificate of Approp-
riateness to the applicants .
MT. GrayyHenry, an applicant, whose hearing is scheduled for the
next meeting on August 6, 1969, appeared and requested information as
to the required plans and photographs for presentation at his hearing.
The Chairman advised 'him as to the requirements .
The Chairman advised the Commission that although notifed by
letter of the illegality, the operator of the Battle Green Shell station
was still maintaining ice and Pepsi-Cola machines on the property. The
awning at Hanlon' s Shoe store has not been corrected as _required in
Certificate of appropriateness No. 69 C-8, issued on April 16, 1969 .
The Chairman_ also advised that he and Commissioners Graves and. Emery
had me with Mr. Comeau of Associated Estates, !no. to view the pro-
perty at 1632 Massachusetts Avenue . The possibility of a set back
from the street line was discussed at that time . The extension of time
on the application of Associated Estates, _no . expires on August 159 1969 . A letter will be sent to Wholesale Electronic Supply at 1711
Massachusetts Avenue advising them that the sign that they are dis-
playing on the store is in violation of the Historic Districts Act.
The next meeting night is scheduled for Wednesday, August 6, 1969,
at 7.30 P.M., in the Selectmen ' s Room, Town Office Building to consider
the applications of Gray G. and Larue Howell Henry and Arthur B. and
John E. Douglass, Trustees of Almarjo Realty Trust .
The meeting was adjourned at 11:20 P.M.

CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS
This certificate is issued pursuant to Chapter 447, Acts of Massachusetts, 1956, as amended, to

with respect to amendment of Certificate of Appropriateness No. 68 C-21,
issued June 27, 1968, with respect to the erection of a new retail
automobile service station building and related facilities and fences,
as noted below, at 1095 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the
East Village District.
The amendment to said Certificate No. 68 C-21 consists of the following :
1. The installation of an air tower in the planting' area
on the southwesterly side of the service station buil-
ding in the approximate location shown on the drawing
entitled "Proposed Rubbish Enclosure Maple St and Mass .
Ave . Lexington, Mass ." submitted to the Commission at
r the hearing on July 23, 1969
2. The erection of a split cedar fencing adjacent to the
southwesterly side of the service station building as
fi an enclosure for a rubbish and trailer storage area.
The location of the fencing is to be as shown on the
aforesaid drawing submitted at the hearing. The fen-
cing is to be 4' ir, height at the rear property line,
is to extend southward to a height of 61 at the edge
of the curbing shown on the aforesaid drawing, and the
cedar fence gate across the front of the enclosure is
to be 6' in height . All fencing is to match in style
and color the existing fencing erected pursuant to the
issuance of Certificate of Appropriateness No. 68 C-21.
The existing curbing on the front of the enclosure is
` to be removed and replaced with a concrete apron
leading to a new concrete platform within the enclosure.

The addition is to consist of the replacement of the existing one
story entrance structure attached to the rear elevation of the exis-
ting dwelling with a new one story structure which is to U® connected
to a new two-car garage . The location of the new addition and at-
tached garage is to be as shown on Plot Plan entitled "Plot Plan of
Land in Lexington, Mass ., Albert A . Miller & Wilbur C . Nylander,
Civil engineers & Surveyors, Lexington, Mass .", dated June 10, 1969,
submitted to the Commission on July 24, 196c .
The design, layout, style, dimensions and some of the details of the
addition and garage appear on drawings Nos . 1, 2, 3 and 4 of a set
of 7 drawings submitted to the Commission at the hearing on July 23,
19o9 . All clapboards are to have an exposure of approximately 8"
and all shingles, gutters, downspouts and clapboards are to match as
nearly as possible the corresponding materials of the existing dwel-
ling. The louvers of the garage are to be of wood, The poured
concrete foundation may be finished with a light colored sponge float
stucco. All new woodwork and downspouts are to be painted white to
match the existing dwelling.
A blacktop apron is to be installed connecting the existing driveway
to the garage .
