Tuesday evening, Dec. 3s 1957 at 7s30 P.M. in the Selectmen's Room on the application for a, certificate of appropriateness of the She in-t.'ill.Jams Paint for proposed p:inting and erection of a sign at 1841 Mass. Ave.taxington which is within the Battle Green Dic:trict. Mr. Parsons presided in Tyr. Davis' absence. Present also were Commissioners Tagl.or and Kettell and Alternates Howard and Mrs,kerriam. Mr, C.S104ells of 25 Brookline Ave.Boston was present frai the Sherwin-Williams people in the absence of Nr*Belcastro who was at a meeting in Chicago. Nor. Wells had only learned of this meeting about 5.00 o'clock this afternoon. Mr. Pareon lead the notice and explained briefly to Mr.we'le the Act. Mr. wells moke of the high duality of their company and said they had a 3 and 2 yr. ( 5 yr. total) lease from Nr.Scott. Each store operates by itself and �4p1C0.00 is deposited only ro credit of the local company and, Mr. Beleastro is Local manager and responsible for company here. Mr. Wells said paint could be changed but the sign bothered then. First sign was too eoi<'; for local ordinance and another one( now up) was ordered which, is their usual sign--creasy background, covering entire top of store with maroon lettering® Said sign cost t$200.00( baked poreelein) and about �15O.00 to erect. , He asked why when the permit for siZn was given out, why there was not a note on it saying this had been approved by the Historic Districts Commission? They knew nothing from the landlord he said about our Commission. He would like to have a length of time ( 5 yrs. ) on sign so that some of the expense could be absorbed. Then sign could be changed, l'Ir.4ettell said it was very hard to have 9, standard on signs. It was decided to discuss this at n,act week's hearinz,( dec.1.0th) ai-d decide on anolher date with the Sherwin-Williams people, when Ur.Belcastro would be back( which will be night of Dec.14 ) Mr.slsgells wanted this meeting the first of January so he could be .resent as he is going away Deo.13th, However, running this until there is too close to the 60 day .limit. This hearing ad;ourned about 8:20 P.N. Considerable discussion was had and it was decided to discuss this Dec.10th and hold Dec. 17th( Tuesday) for a possible date for this next hearing.
