Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) Minutes
September 17th, 2018
Members Present: Bill Levison, Co-Chair; Hank Manz, Co-Chair; Sara Arnold, Andra Bennett,
Sally Castleman, Elaine Dratch
Liaison: Bob Creech, Planning Board; Sadhir (COA)
Staff: Susan Barrett
Vinitha
Mr. Levison called the meeting to order at approximately 7:10 PM in Room 245 of the
Community Center.
It was decided that committee members will be added to the Lexington transportation
newsletter.
Public comment: Ms. Barrett reported on comments she had received from residents
regarding transportation services:
• Poornima Putti has emailed a request for extending Lexpress service to the Drummer
Boy Condos. This is an area that has a lot of students. Lexpress used to service the
Drummer Boy complex, but there are a lot of dead ends in the complex and it might work
best if the bus could do a U-turn. Additional investigation is required.
• Mr. Sadhir detailed his experience using LexConnect - although he called one day
ahead to schedule his ride, he was not able to place his reservation immediately. His call
was turned down and had to call again every half hour until he managed to book it.
There was a general concern about Sadhir being turned down a few times, so Susan
was going to look into the handling of LexConnect transit appointments.
There was a group discussion around other options - Uber, Lyft, Curb and "The Ride"
(which is a special service for people with disabilities) and whether seniors would be
inclined to share rides.
Minutes: A motion was made and seconded to approve the Minutes for the June 5th, 2018
TAC meeting. VOTE: 6-0
Transportation Update : Ms. Barrett reviewed the material prepared in the transportation
update and the following were emphasized:
• A few public forums on public transit are scheduled and advertised in a variety of
community locations. Everyone is encouraged to advertise these forums as well as the
community-wide survey on transit needs. A third public forum may be added in an
attempt to engage the community on discussion for public transit needs.
• Call for volunteers for public events, in particular back to school nights for Clarke and
Diamond middle schools. Some TAC members will attend.
• Lexpress 7:30AM runs are experiencing higher ridership than the 6:35AM trips, but the
buses are running late with route #3 being most notably behind schedule. Back-to-
school traffic and ongoing construction have contributed heavily to the noted delays.
The situation is still monitored and some steps can be taken to improve timeliness.
This was Mr. Levison's last TAC meeting as chair. Mr. Hank Manz was voted chair and Andra
Bennett co-chair of TAC.
Mr. Levison announced the Mr. Su Shen has sent in his letter of resignation. A new position on
the TAC member board is available.
Next TAC meeting is scheduled for October 15th.
