ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE (Describe important architectural features and
evaluate in terms of other buildings within the community.)
There are several houses in Lexington with this sort of gable treatment
(but without the dentils) . They include 24 Oakland Street, 3 Chandler Road,
and additions to 19 Oakland Street (these other houses are by Willard Brown) .
The source of the gable design has not been identified. It could be a Willard
Brown concoction. The house is really a late variant of the Shingle Style
which is given a particularly "Old English" look by the gables.
HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (Explain the role owners played in local or state
history and how the building relates to the development of the community.)
The house was built by Arthur F. Turner, a clerk in Boston. He married
in 1904, so that may be the date this house was completed.
BIBLIOGRAPHY and/or REFERENCES (name of publication, author, date and publisher)
Hudson, Charles.
