ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE (Describe important architectural features and <br /> evaluate in terms of other buildings within the community.) <br /> one of over a dozen houses in late nineteenth century picturesque styles <br /> built on Winthrop Road, this house draws most of its features from the Shingle <br /> Style: polygonal turret with peaked roof; curved, shingled lintel in the gable <br /> window; and porch with shingled balustrade. <br /> HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (Explain the role owners played in local or state <br /> history and how the building relates to the development of the community.) <br /> This house was built by Walter R. Champney, a tea broker in Boston.
