INVENTORY FORM CONTINUATION SHEET Community: Foran No:
MASSACHUSETTS HISTORICAL CCSSION Lexington 450
Office of the Secretary, Boston
Property Name: 87 Waltham Street
Indicate each item on inventory form which is being continued below.
ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE
This is one of Lexington's first Mansard Style houses. Although the
building is deteriorated, all of its original features remain: the slate roof
with rows of hexagonal slates, the brackets at the eaves, the columned porch,
the projecting window caps, and the rope moldings at the corners. In 1983
the owners requested a zoning change so that the building might be used for
commercial purposes (it is just at the edge of the central business district) .
The petition was denied, but evidently the owners intend to save it, for in
April 1984 staging was put up and repairs begun.
BIBLIOGRAPHY and/or REFERENCES
1875 atlas
1889 atlas
1906 atlas
1887 Directory
1894 Directory
1899 Directory
1906 Directory
Staple to Inventory form at bottom
