Historical significance (include explanation of themes checked above) <br /> The original building on this site was a three story, wooden frame <br /> structure with retail stores at street level and apartments above. It was <br /> built in 1874 by John L. Norris, contractor. Originally, the floor level of <br /> the stores was several feet above street level and access was gained by <br /> mounting four steps to all the shops. In 1924 the entire building was lowered <br /> 3 feet to bring the stores to street level. In the early 1900s the Depot <br /> Square end of the block contained a hotel/roominghouse. <br /> S.
