BUILDING FORM (35 Hillcrest Avenue) <br /> ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION <br /> Describe architectural features. Evaluate the characteristics of the building in terms of other buildings within the <br /> community. <br /> Constructed in 1954-1957, 35 Hillcrest Avenue is a single-story, side-gabled Ranch-style dwelling which rests on a concrete <br /> foundation. The main block is five bays wide and is built on a slightly sloping site, resulting in an exposed basement window <br /> on the south end of the facade. The house displays a stone veneer exterior with brick quoining flanking the sides of the <br /> windows and doors. The projecting,gabled porch is constructed of cobblestone with rough marble-like rocks in the gable. <br /> The fenestration has all been replaced and includes a new front door and individual and paired 1/1 windows with a tripartite <br /> unit adjacent to the entrance. <br /> To the right of the original house is a two-story addition consisting of a concrete block garage on the lower level with an <br /> upper level which is sheathed in vinyl siding with two bays of paired 1/1 windows. <br /> HIS`T'ORICAL NARRATIVE <br /> Des�ribe the history of the building. Explain its associations with local (or state) history. Include uses of the building and <br /> the role(s) the owners/occupants played within the community. <br /> This house is located on lot 273-277 of the ELA(East Lexington Associates) subdivision. The subdivision was laid out in <br /> the early 20th century but this lot was not built upon until 1954. The house was constructed by and for Pasquale and Martha <br /> Iozzo. He was a contractor. The couple lived in Roxbury prior to and during the construction of this house, which took from <br /> 1954 to 1957.
